From an expert viewpoint, Eric Chinje did not mince words sharing his humble opinion on the presidential speech and what future holds for Cameroon in an exclusive interview on STV. The one-time CRTV’s Editor-in-Chief in charge of presidential coverage now working for the African Development Bank (ADB) in Tunisia took time out to give impression about a country and its leader he thinks have not much changed for the past two decades;

"I think that the president has not change that much …I could have love to see a lot of changes, but I think he hasn’t change. I still can identify the same elements that defines his personality… a personage who believes in what he does, who speaks of democracy, who believes but doesn’t possibly have courage to go ahead with what he does," Eric Chinje declared with much candour.

Reacting to the modification of the constitution, the reputed journalist says that it is a good enough situation for the to demonstrate expertise in his area of competence. That it is important that information is best furnished on the reasons why the head of state wants to modify the constitution and which under normal circumstances must be based on a sound knowledge of opinion sampling and situation analysis. He, however, cautions the Cameroonian government to accompany the democratisation process with a lot of education of the masses and constant follow-up not leaving out the role of the media. There is need to help the public to understand the stakes. The head of state ought to be in close touch with the people which is unfortunately not the case today.but I see his less present today and no more in close touch with the public as was the case in the 1980s. So, there is need for an increase of presence with the assistance of his collaborators. There is need for an exchange with journalist…for a press conference to explain issues of national concern," the ADB expert explained.He adds that what contributed to the slow-paced development in Cameroon is the low index of confidence among the Cameroonian people. There is little or no mutual confidence to boost the intellect and morale of the Cameroonians. From a general look of things, he laments that the Cameroonian society breeds a lot of vices of indiscipline, laxity, inefficiency and corruption which can simply checked by means of a Good Vision, Good Institutions (System) and Good Leadership. There is also need for an independent judiciary and an effective police force void of corrupt practices. The government has to reduce the power of the public sector and strengthen the private sector for business to pick up and create wealth.
